An Open Letter to Steve Shultz, The Elijah List Contributers, Lee Grady, Charisma Magazine and the Entire Prophetic Movement: 13 Percent Is No Longer Acceptable Under the New Covenant

I have struggled for many years to know what to say and for the right spirit in which to say it, but now the time has come, and I believe I am possessed of the right spirit.


A LONG TRAIN OF ABUSES

Dear Steve, Lee, and others,

There are many of us who read the List and Charisma each day, sirs, and have done so for years.


But, sirs, that has begun to change, and the change has been coming for years.


There are those who function in the Redemptive Gift of Prophet.  I am specifically excluding that particular gift.

Rather, I am speaking to those who engage in the Manifestation Gift of Prophesying (1 Cor 12 and 14) and the Office of Prophet (Ephesians 4:11-13) given for the equipping and mentoring role of young Prophets coming up.  I am speaking by the mercy of G-d and not in anger whatsoever.


It was my understanding that a major prophetic ministry, if memory serves correctly, Elijah List, posted a report years ago that no more than 13 percent of the words given on average have come to pass.


And many times, these words have not come to pass.  Further, more often than not, when the words failed to come to pass, the response of either silence or of qualification for previously unqualified words that were wrong has been so loud that many of us have not known what our response should have been.

Many of my colleagues have had their trust shaken in the accuracy of the prophetic word, especially when Hebrews states in multiple places that we have a better covenant than the Old Covenant, under which Elisha the son of Shaphat functioned, and Elisha, under the Old Covenant, heard what the king uttered in his bedchambers.


Sirs, many of my generation grew up under my parents generation (born during the 1950’s), listening patiently to that generation of prophetic voices speak about the things of G-d.  And the track record has repeatedly failed to live up to the nature of prophecy.

Further, the willingness of the List specifically to tout “accuracy” in introducing certain of these men lands badly with many of us for two reasons.

  1. “Accuracy” should be a given in prophecy and therefore should not even be a necessary part of an introduction.  A person’s reputation should speak for themselves. (For example, when you think of resurrections from the dead, one need not tout David Hogan’s credentials)
  2. The parading of a person’s accuracy lands with me, at least, as implying that others in the List have a trouble with accuracy, which has proven to be the case repeatedly.
  3. We are so willing to make much of a person’s accuracy, without even concerning ourselves with their humility. See here for my views on humility and the prophetic.

I for one, spent years listening to my then-pastor and his wife making a number of proclamations that were not grounded in the reality of Scripture, and have watched people engage in all sorts of unweighted words.  Several of my closest friends were damaged or cursed by challenging their authority, as they operated heavily in control and manipulation.


To cite an example other than the most recent issue with the Red Tsunami, one U.S. President was prophesied to have a “spirit of humility”.  That word has fallen flatly; he has proven to manifest anything but that spirit.


The author of that word has issued something like an apology, which is a start, but here is the bottom line, Mr. Shultz, Mr. Grady, and Company.
The track record for this generation is abysmal and unacceptable.  The integrity of my parents’ generation of the Prophetic Movement has some major question marks when they will not accept the scrutiny of correction of the church at large.  Many in my generation have run out of patience when it comes to our parents generation of the Movement making a course correction.  The following words are appropriate:

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. — Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government.

The hardest transition to make is from G-d’s order to G-d’s new order.

The abuses without repentance leave much to be desired.


13 percent fulfillment is unacceptable.

That statistic of 13 percent was relayed by a friend of mine, Arthur Burk.  I say “friend” because Arthur has come to be a sounding board for some of my frustrations.  I say “friend” because I helped him put up a compost pile, and wired some of his lights at his new office, and because I pray consistently for him and those things that are his priorities.  His is a precious connection that I will not barter as a chip in a game; and he is one person that provides a unique counterpoint when I am not sure the Prophetic Movement has gotten it rightly.


1 Corinthians is explicitly clear that one prophet should speak and the others should judge what they have to say.  A problem, however, arises when a prophet speaks, the judges agree and the word is blatanly off-point, and they then either qualify it, as Mark Taylor did, speaking that voter fraud and other earthquakes would provide the necessary seismic shift to create the Tsunami in question.

Look, gang, when a word is off, it is true we may not be dealing with the concept of a false prophet, but there may be a fault in the prophecy.  And if we engage repeatedly in faults in prophecy, and say “the L-rd has said” when the L-rd has not said, then we have crossed over into falsification.   And we need to repent, or admit that we may have been wrong.


This speaks of a dreaded lack of humility in the Prophetic Movement, and those who claim the office of Prophet.


And I, for one-and I imagine others in my generation (those born around 1980, many of which have left the institutional church) will not accept such abysmal numbers and statistics as indicators of the arrival of the true Prophetic.

I am also not talking about those who are learning to operate.  I am speaking to those with a national voice and some experience in delivering national words.


We will have either a broad-based repentance that issues forth from the bowels of the Prophetic Movement and a reform in its basic governance, or we will have a new governance.

We will have Prophets that operate with love as their lynchpin and BOLD HUMILITY as their hallmark.  We will have Prophets that are capable of saying, “I am willing to admit what I hear may be wrong”.  Those who see themselves or are seen as leaders in the Movement must learn to be subjected to the rest of the body of those who flow in the prophetic.


We will have Prophets that apologize boradly when they issue words that do not come to pass, and will be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ.

We will have a purification of the Prophetic Movement that refuses to settle for 13 percent pass rate as acceptable.


Because Elijah and the rest of the Old Testament Prophets were completely human like us, this means we are also like them, accessing the same Spirit of G-d, and capable of a far greater accuracy than we current demonstrate and a humility like they had.


We will have a Movement that does not qualify a word that does not come to pass.


We will have a Movement that does justly, loves mercy, and WALKS HUMBLY with its G-d.


We will have a Movement that is steeped in the intimacy of this new season of Isaac, rather than the systems and covering of the old season, the season of Ishmael.

We will have a Movement that walks in the humility that we saw demonstrated in the Redemptive Gift Mercy, Bob Jones.


We will have our Movement purified, or we will become the new Movement.


The time for qualifiers, and words that cause defilement in the minds of the hearers is over.


The time for repentance is now, and I beseech you therefore, brothers and sisters of the Prophetic Movement to repent and reform your actions before the L-rd, or face a judgment (a decision) against this increasingly falsified Movement by those of us willing to speak up and step into the office of a Prophet.  We are done with the season of the Ishmaelite Prophetic, and we will have the season of Isaac that the L-rd has promised us, with character, integrity, humility, accuracy greater than 13 percent, a willingness to boldly apologize when we mess it up, and lynchpinned on love.

HEALING AND THE PROPHETIC IN BRIEF CONTRAST


Granted, I understand, there is a temptation to perceive that I am in agreement with being harsh towards prophets.  As in the following concept of the delivery of prophetic words versus ministry of healing.


If a man comes by with a gift of healing to minister to a group and 98 out of 100 people get healed, then the man has a legitimate gift of healing.


But if a man give 98 accurate prophetic words and 2 that are inaccurate, then he is a false prophet and we should uncompromisingly stone him with stones that he may die.


That is not my issue.


The movement is not even hitting 20 percent accuracy, much less 98 percent accuracy.  This is a problem.
 

HOW WE TREATED THE PROBLEM IN OLD TESTAMENT TIMES VERSUS THE CURRENT MODES


Given that stoning was the punishment for inaccurate words or words with a malicious motive, how can we expect that the standard has decreased or changed under the New Covenant?  Something must be done when an Office Prophet, a leader in the Movement, messes up this badly.  I am not calling for stoning, but I am saying that there are spiritual consequences when we are inaccurate by this magnitude that go into effect when we are off.  This isn’t even prophesying by the Spirit of G-d.  Rather , in many cases, it is prophesying in accordance with the desires of our hearts.  We wish G-d to move in such a way, and so we prophesy, declare, and decree it to be so.
What we are seeing at work in the Movement is the fruit of that behavior, and it is not good fruit.  It is failing inspection.  We are seeing the Principle of Sowing and Reaping at work, and I imagine it has been going on for some time in the Prophetic Movement if only 13 percent average accuracy is what we have to show for it.


Be quick to listen and slow to speak, brethren.

The Single Prerequisite To The Office of a Prophet

And do not get me started on how it is love in this context.
Love is the most important thing, true.
However, let me highlight one aspect of love.
The most important prerequisite for one who walks in the office of a Prophet is humility.
Let me say that again for those who prophesy in the political arena all sorts of outlandish things and then refuse to retract what they have said and then instead choose to heap outlandish thing upon outlandish thing.
Let me say it for those who think I am speaking out against one side of this issue and fail to see there are more than two sides to the political debacle in this nation I call home.

Prov. 22:4 The reward for humility and fear of the L-RD

is riches and honor and life.

Prov. 15:33 The fear of the L-RD is instruction in wisdom,

and humility comes before honor.

Prov. 18:12 Before destruction a man’s heart is haughty,

but humility comes before honor.

Zeph. 2:3 Seek the L-RD, all you humble of the land,

who do his just commands;

seek righteousness; seek humility;

perhaps you may be hidden

on the day of the anger of the L-RD.

Acts 20:19 serving the L-rd with all humilityand with tears and with trials that happened to me through the plots of the Jews;

Eph. 4:2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,

Phil. 2:3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

Col. 3:12 ¶ Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,

1Pet. 5:5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

The prophet of the L-rd humiliates himself or herself. I know four men thus far that consistently have carried this quality: Jeff Sickler, David Falls, Arthur Burk, and Loren Sandford. As to women, I know four thus far that for certain I would place on that level. Pam MacNelley, Carlene Prince, Wendy Falls, and Sandy Landry.
Period, inclusive of all people I know.
The prophet of the L-rd does not arrogate him or herself.
The prophet of the L-rd publishes confessions saying they may have gotten this or that wrong, and they do not hedge or qualify this or that thing with a “wait a minute, this is a qualifier for that previously unqualified word I gave”.
The prophet of the L-rd embraces love as their lynchpin, and humility as their needle and thread for everything they craft.
Paul’s attitude in 1 Cor. 4 is worth your imitation.
And yes, I know, sometimes prophets can get flamboyant, especially those with the Redemptive Gift of Exhortation.
But, there is always a willngness to apologize.
There is a quickness for self-examination and instrospection.
This quality is what makes relationships possible and strengthened for the prophet.
Commit those passages to your memory if you think you are summoned to the office of a prophet, and meditate on them.
“What does it really look like? What do I really need to understand?”

Carlene is a precious woman of G-d and friend from my tribal home of Montana.  Any time she furnishes the body of Christ with a comment, it is quite weighty, and below is no exception.
She writes:

The Father has told me repeatedly this year “It’s ALL about access.” He was teaching me that on both sides of the coin. In the negative – that looks like this: How all the enemy does is make multiple attempts to find access to our hearts – he’ll look for any access point we don’t have sealed with the blood of Jesus …even if just a crack, he’ll exploit to infiltrate. In the positive however, every circumstance in our lives can be completely overwhelmed by the love of God, because of the access we have in Christ. “If you are in God, so are ALL your circumstances” (Graham Cooke says). When you KNOW you have access to a King… access that never decreases, access that never diminishes, access that is never temporarily disrupted or shut down – but full-fledged, constant access to THE King of all kings… everything changes. I loved this meme I saw again today – it says it all.

My Review of DID Series 3, Complete With the Cribbed Notes, Comments, Ruminations, and Thoughts from the Weekend

O L-rd, how many are my foes!
Many are rising against me;
Many are saying of my soul,
“There is no salvation for him in G-d.”
Selah
But you, O L-rd, are a shield about me,
My glory, and the lifter of my head.
I cried aloud to the L-rd,
And He answered me from His holy hill.
Selah
I lay down and slept;
I woke again, for the L-rd sustained me.
I will not be afraid of many thousands of people
Who have set themselves against me all around.
Psalm 3:1-6 ESV

It was exceptionally appropriate and a touch ironic for me that Arthur led off New Strategies for DID, Part 3, with the first three verses of this passage.
Appropriate because this passage deals with dynamics (rest, sustainment, answers from the L-rd, identifying Him with our glory, and the one who brings us dignity,
Ironic because the first time I heard this psalm preached, it came from someone who ultimately became an adversary and who was originally the picture of safety.
The second time I heard this passage taught and broken down, was at this live event, 17 years later.  Arthur did not know it, but when he began the live event by framing it with this passage, he was ministering a great deal of life and healing to my spirit and soul.
He focused on verse 3, and told us that one of the shades of meaning for the phrase that is translated “the lifter of my head” is “the one who brings us dignity”.
And then from there, he discussed that part of our job and focus as we minister to clients is to bring dignity to not just the people to whom we minister, but also to the parts with whom we interact.  No matter how damaged, or mangled, or raw, or beaten, or bruised, or angry, or vengeful a part is, our job as followers of the L-rd, counselors, and clinicians is to bring dignity to-and spare further harm of-parts.
The lion’s share of the live event covered live demonstrations with individuals who had parts, and each of these was followed by Q and A segments, where we got to pick his brain and interact with each of the demos.
 
INDIVIDUAL WITH AN ANGRY PART
He then modeled this dignity with an individual who had han angry part.  And, get this: he blessed the anger of the angry part, specifically given the fact that anger is a sign of two things:

  1. A sense of justice
  2. An objective.

And when he came to the issue of blessing the angry part, I felt a specific sense of release when it came to my own issues with anger, which are many and varied.  I spent a great deal of my own life being angered at people passively accepting garbage that was not G-d’s purpose or plan, and just acting exceptionally conciliatory to situations that they did not need to accept.
 
INDIVIDUAL WITH A LILLITH
From there, Arthur moved to another few individuals that had varying degrees of sensitivity in their spirit.  He had variously covered some stuff to do with the spirit of Lillith, which, when present, often negatively affects relationships between women and either other women or other men.  In some of the mystic writings, Lillith is associated with feminism and control, and the old legends say that Lillith was Adam’s first wife.  Now, we as followers of Christ know that is a farce, but there is a spirit associated with that legend that has sought to create a name and press for “herself” that looks to infiltrate and damage marriages, close friendships, familial relationships, and relationships within churches.  There is a livestream from the SLG website that I would also recommend on this topic for those that want to dive further in.
As Arthur worked with that issue with his client, I felt a jump in my own spirit, and a grip on that issue.  During this second client, I worked with the L-rd from my spirit, to work through some of those issues that were cited in the work on Lillith.  I have dealt with a number of personal issues that pertain to negative relationships with other women and men, in terms of control, and while I am not a woman myself, there are dynamics of giving and receiving that affect both men and women, and the dynamic of receiving is more of a feminine trait, strange as that sounds, and my receiver had been broken in some ways for quite a while.  I began to feel a sense of relief as I worked through the issues, some which my wife and I have begun working on ourselves together with each other.  The payoff has been pretty substantial.
 
THE INTANGIBLES
Following this, there were a couple of other clients that Arthur worked with, but what really landed with me, beyond these first couple, was the level of camaraderie among the group.  There was that certain intangible quality of new friendship-building in a conference on Dissociative Identity Disorder that one does not typically encounter.  Typically, this is an atmosphere that I would have expected at a marriage and family conference.  This day was so life-altering in terms of the communion and strength of community that happened, that 20 of us went out to dinner at the end, and many new relationships were forged.  I began the process of risking in a way I did not know I was capable of.  And I was able to take part in the beauty of a new expression of G-d the Father’s love of Community.
Certainly, we need to have DID and SRA in the mainstream conversation, and we need fewer people who are intimidated to work with it, and along with ministry to survivors, we need competent people who are trustworthy and gentle to work with those who are divided and surviving,  not merely well-meaning and loving ignoramuses, nor competent jerks.
Principle-wise, another facet of this series that was so critical is the way in which Arthur built out the concept of trust and taking our time when it comes to working with those that are hurting and need us to maintain a spirit of gentleness and humility.
Also, another aspect of the value in this teaching is the way in which Arthur worked with a client who had a number of Alien Human Spirits that affected that client’s journey IN THE CONTEXT OF WORKING WITH PARTS.
Seriously, gang, this series was veritable potpourri, mixed in with some solid anchor points that would benefit any believer who works in the healing/deliverance/counseling/pastoral/friend-of-survivors-and-parts professions and wants to experiment with some different, nimble modalities.  This series will be well worth your time and purchase, if for nothing else than it will carry the fragrance of intimacy and touch on some topics that need convering desperately in the body of Christ.

Separate them from all of the other negative dynamics. Cleanse defilement from SSBBO, Office of Personhood, Daughter/son, man/woman. Apply the Blood of Christ to the situation.
I ask You would extract from the angry one the demonic presence that the part thinks is part of its essence. Remove every unholy spirit form the presence of the angry part.

Quit qualifying it with the religious term “righteous indignation”.

That is anger and judgment, and G-d can handle and love our anger. Now, we cleanse the angry parts and we equip and release them and they work with Father to deal with the stuff. And do we need jumper cables.

We have a whole dynamic of psychology of wounded healers that know all, and dispense all the knowledge to the “stupid” know-little clients, and they are better classed in their discipline as “welfare psychology”. Rather we should give our clients an enviornment of collaboration, treat them as wise and capable, and give them the dignity to do their own work.
It is not my job or the job of any clinician to fix someone. It is our job to work with the clients and their assets.

Give them the dignity to know they are wise, and capable, and bring something to the table.
Stop being a know-it-all, or even a know-it-most.

Exhorters are sensitive to rejection. They must come to terms with understanding and engaging deeply with Reality, Sowing and Reaping, and Pain and Suffering first in order to have a right framework. Period. If you are an Exhorter and refuse to hunt for Reality, Sowing and Reaping, and Pain and Suffering, you will not understand how to work with others well.
Secondly, other gifts need be able to determine if an Exhorter has a grip on this threefold principle or not, and if they do have a grip on this principle, the other gifts need to walk gently with Exhorters.

If Exhorters do not have a grip on Reality, Sowing and Reaping, and Pain and Suffering, OR the other six are interacting with a non-Reality-laden Exhorter in a soft fashion, OR the other six are not interacting with a Reality-Embracing Exhorter in anything other than a gentle fashion, then the interactions can be hampered.
Exhorters that are operating non-Reality are going to have a hard time interacting with others in the areas of their non-Reality.
Exhorters that are operating in Reality, parts or no, that are being harshly treated by others who have shelved the Fruit of the spirit, especially Prophets, can flee from the interaction.
If they have desired to embrace the pain, then we need to be willing to walk with them deeply, and even if we say “what are you talking about”, we need to be willing to work with them affectionately.

As far as cancer goes, I am not being metaphorical here.
Further, those cancers that are obtained in toxic environments may also not be getting healed when we visit various churches because they will still return to their cancer cluster, and the cancer is the fruit of a toxic environment, where betrayal or hidden iniquity or other nastiness is allowed to fester while believers walk in denial and lack of discernment when it comes to dealing the the garbage of a defiled portal or defiled time and land.

If you live in a landfill and visit a hospital for a conference and then return to the landfill to dwell and feed on defiled truth, then you are going to still have the negative fruit.
You can go to Bethel for healing and revival all you want, but if you live in a community with a hidden well of poison and people don’t flow in discernment, and they shut you down and stone you for being a Prophet, then the cancer will remain.
Just gonna say it this way, there are denominations that are dying and their missionaries have gotten loaded up with cancer on their first term out.
Cancer is not the fruit of life, but the fragrance of a culture of betrayal.
Kill the betrayal, and repent, or else your church or denomination will continue to reap destruction.

Our capacity to call out heretics or our capacity to be gentle or our capacity to teach or our capacity to correct a problem, each taken alone apart from the rest, will provide an incomplete picture. We want a whole picture.

Calling out heretics is barely a detail in the kingdom.
A main idea is hunting for design.
You can call out liberal Christians, Evangelical Christians, Catholic Christians, Jewish believers, or Republicans, or Democrats, or, or, or, and completely miss out on the whole.
You can repeat how cursed our President is, or how cursed people are who speak out against the President, or this or that.
I am sorry, I won’t respond much to those who yell about politics on this forum, because none of you who “know the truth” about politics are changing anyone’s mind. Besides, the politics of this season flows from a very small-minded, didactic mentality, both on the left and on the right. I do not know many deep-spirited, large-spirited people who defend or criticize one of the more than two facets of the political reality in the United States.
It is time to move from the shallow end of the kiddie pool to the depths of Wakulla Spring in all arenas. What we have been bantering back and forth the last 18 years have been cups of water, because we have been mesmerized by the majority of the Prophetic Movement, which by and large FLOWS in a mesmerizing spirit and an open psychic door. We need to concern ourselves not with cups of water, but the deeps beyond Leviathan’s realm.
Deepen, widen, broaden, lengthen. This is broader than a demented Exhorter, and the small potatoes of heresy-hunting.
The depths of G-d.
Q, the big five networks, and the rest are the muck on the surface.
The depths are there to discern.

A lot of times, the authority that we use that we have earned in the church can lead to others becoming divided, especially if there is a controlling or abusive flavor to the behavior. Our authority should be used to love, and often times, in light of the truth that “the gifts and callings of G-d are irrevocable”, we can, walking in our authority, mistreat others.

How a Topaz Organization Handles Cruelty To Animals

The Gazette wrote that the Air Force Academy Mascot, a 22-yewr old Gyrfalcon was harmed when captured by West Point Cadets as part of a prank.

It did not end well, though Aurora is expected to make a recovery.

Animal abuse, specifically to an animal on the government’s payroll, is a crime in the military. The crime of “abuse of a public animal” has been on the military’s books since the Army was founded, and has been used primarily to charge those who abused pack animals, such as mules and horses.

While Aurora is a mascot, the statute could apply, with a conviction potentially resulting in up to a year behind bars and a dishonorable discharge

Discerning, Cleansing, and Receiving From Land

In the discernment departement there is a lot discover. It’s more than demons, spirits, smells, sin or defilement. As if that is not enough, there is a sense of time, flow, motion and sound. Think highways, airports, stations, busstops, factories, logistic centers and in the everyday surroundings: the coffee machine at work, the hand dryer in the ladies toilet, the sound of water when you wash your hands, the water dispenser…

So getting my daily dose of sounds every day, instead of blocking them out or neglecting them as part of my routine, I tune in. Just like taking the temperature in a room, I start feeling my way around. What does today feel like? How is the general atmosphere? Then I tune in with Father, the King and Holy Spirit and I pray what comes on my heart and ask Father to pin it, on the sound of the hand dryer, on the flow on the highway, on the beep that my badge makes when I clock in. The register when I go shopping for supplies. You’re waiting in line anyway, might as well leave a blessing there. Pick a few places that you visit often, feel every layer of the atmosphere there, worship God and then drop it, at the sound, the motion, maybe on the time, however He guides you. The places you visit regularly , you’ll really feel the difference, I get refreshed every time I visit a certain city. And usually you can feel Father just pinning it and its great fun. Its a cheek to cheek to dance with the King and you shift atmospheres as you go.
